“Our marketing started with word of mouth,” she
said. “If we ever get people to taste it, we’ve got them
hooked. It’s a taste like no other.”
Conecuh recently partnered with Alabama Athletics
and other SEC programs to advertise and serve
Conecuh products at sporting events across the
Southeast. Next, it is setting its sights on new markets
further west, like Texas and Oklahoma, to continue
driving the brand forward.
“Alabama has helped us grow,” Jamie Sessions said.
“When we started sponsoring Athletics, it really opened
doors for us that we didn’t have open before.”
The Next Generation
John Henry (son of John Crum Sessions) and
Jamie’s two children, John Travis and Kristan Sessions,
are current students at the University. Kristan is
majoring in finance and planning to go to law
school, while John Travis is majoring in mechanical
engineering.
“Our parents gave us the opportunity to do
something completely different,” Kristan said. “They
wanted us to choose what we wanted to do. At first, I
wanted to be a vet. But then I got more involved in the
business, and I thought, I really want to come back and
continue this legacy.”
“I’ve always been fascinated with how things run
and work and the mechanics behind it,” John Travis
said. “In the new Andalusia facility, we’re putting
in robots to help pack product into boxes. I feel
like a mechanical engineering degree will help me
accomplish my goal of understanding everything.”
Both of them have been a part of the whole
Conecuh Sausage family for their entire lives. Kristan
said her parents brought her to the plant to show her
to all their employees right after she was born, so she’s
literally been there since birth.
