Dr. Doris Sung is an associate
professor of art history at UA.
Her research investigates modern
and contemporary art of East
Asia, with a focus on gender.
In 2023, Sung co-curated an
exhibition with Sarah Marshall
(Professor of Art, Printmaking)
titled “Women of Mokuhanga”
for the Sarah Moody Gallery of
Art. One of the artists in the
exhibition, Katie Baldwin, told
Sung about a Hong Kong artist
who graduated from UA’s art
program in the 1990s. A Hong
Kong native herself, Sung
immediately contacted Yung
through social media. Sung
started following Yung’s research
on Hong Kong Type and found
it fascinating. During a research
trip in 2025, Sung met up with
Yung and saw the exhibition, and
she decided to share Yung’s story
with the UA community.
